The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
“My mother and my brothers are anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven.”
Matthew 12:46-50
In today’s reading, Jesus says that whoever does the will of God is his brother, and sister, and mother. This includes his ‘mother and brothers’ who were wishing to speak to him, as far as they were doing the will of God. No one did the will of God more perfectly than the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was not a rejection of them, but an opportunity for Jesus to extend the tent of his family to all of us.
As I picture this scene, where do I see myself? Do I feel as though I already belong to the family of God, sitting at the feet of Jesus? Or am I outside, with Mary and the others? How do I react to Jesus’ words? Let us speak to Jesus about this today, and listen for his still small voice, as we pray for the knowledge to know his will for us in each moment and do it.
