‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’
Mark 12:28-34
How wise are we? Today in the gospel, Jesus praises the wisdom of the scribe in his understanding of the first and most important commandment. Jesus told him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God’. We might ask Jesus today, Lord, how far am I from the kingdom of God? How well do I grasp the commandments of the Father?
We are familiar with the first commandment: ‘To love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and your neighbour as yourself,’ but before this, there is another commandment: ‘LISTEN.’ How well do we listen? To truly love God, ourselves, and others, we must actively listen to God, asking Him how He would like us to love and serve Him today.
So, in our prayers today, let’s create space and time for God to speak to us, adopt the attitude of Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus so that we can not only experience being ‘near to the kingdom of God’ but also bring His presence to those around us.
