“Ask, and it will be given to you.”

Luke 11:5-13

In today’s reading, Jesus teaches about the importance of persistence in our prayer. Persistent prayer is a sign of dependence and trust in God. We need to fight against the bad spirit who wants us to become discouraged if our prayer is unanswered, and remember that our prayer is never unheard by God. He is able to provide what we need, in his perfect timing.

What is our attitude towards prayer and asking for what we need? Are we like children, humble and dependent, approaching our heavenly father who we know wants to give good gifts to us? Are we prone to feelings of discouragement? We can talk to Jesus about these things. Let us also ask again for the gift of the holy Spirit, our advocate, who intercedes for us and helps us to pray.
